This ‘Red Dwarf’-themed campaign marks the start of an exciting new chapter for The AA.
Known as Britain’s fourth emergency service, The AA is one of the nation’s most iconic brands, with a history of brilliant advertising.
In 2018, we kicked off a bold new chapter with The AA. A chapter of digital transformation, and setting the benchmark for simpler and smarter products and services for UK drivers.
Now that we’re ready to launch the first phase of the overhaul, we have developed a new campaign to signal drivers up and down the land that the future of breakdown has finally arrived.
The AA / Stellar Rescue

The future of breakdown.
To explain the perks of the AA’s new technician tracking breakdown service, we re-united the stars of Red Dwarf (a popular British sci-fi show) on TV.
Set three million years into deep space, "Stellar rescue", finds Starbug stranded on a desolate planet in the middle of a lightning storm. While mechanoid Kryten, Cat and the holographic Rimmer panic, tech-savvy Scouser Dave Lister saves the day with his handy AA app, tracking their mechanic as she pulls up in a decked-out yellow space van.
The work was written by Jon Farley and Alex Lucas, in collaboration with Red Dwarf creators Doug Naylor and Rob Grant.
